Kiteboarding Thailand - Kitesurfing in Chumphon

Welcome to Chumphon

Chumphon kitecenter is closed now!!

Thung Wua Laen beach is 15 km north of Chumphon. This unspoiled spot has a beautiful (and mostly empty) beach, several guesthouses and restaurants and the best wind in Thailand. The quiet laid-back atmosphere makes it a perfect place to kite and relax.
Nearby Chumphon town has an active night market, lots of restaurants, a supermarket and several places to have a drink. You can take a local pick up to town or hire a motorbike for 200 baht / day and drive yourself.

KBA Chumphon is located at the Tawan Resort, just 10 meters from the beach. It has beautiful new rooms with aircon, refrigerator, hot water shower and a porch for just 700 baht/night (with discounts for long stays). There is also a minimarket and a restaurant with great food and service to tables on the beach.

The spot:
Our center is located at the Tawan Resort, located in the middle of Thung Wua Laen beach. We will teach right on this beach or in case of strong wind and big wave, we also have another spot with smooth flat and shallow water. For the intermediate the waves will keep you busy. The beach is about 2.5km long, with pristine white sand, no shells or rocks around. You can get out of our bed right on to the board, because the bungalows are right on the beach.

February to mid May - Afternoon sea breezes 12-18 knots, kicking in around 13:00, building until around 17:00 then decreasing as the sun goes down.

The sea:
Chest deep at about 50m, sandy bottom.
Chumphon beach has choppy waves which get bigger as the wind increases, and a nice little shore break for shredding and boosting. Waves are smaller during the months of February to April. Some days in November to January can produce some big surf, great for the advanced kiter. The second teaching spot is in a big bay with knee to chest deep water, absolutly flat, cause of a big sandbench infront of it.

Kite guidelines:
KBA has built up a solid reputation for safety in Chumphon. Your compliance with the following will help keep the beach safe and open for kiteboarding. The following kite guide lines are enforced by the Chumphon Minority and KBA around the School Area**.

  • Kiters must give right of way to ALL beach users.
  • Do not accept help from non kiteboarders.
  • Please accept that this is a relatively new sport and most people have no idea of the dangers of kiteboarding. Assume everyone on the beach is ignorant, and accept that people will get in your way. It is up to you to educate them in a calm and friendly manner.
  • Kiteboarders must kite away from KBA student
